Compositions

Hexes and Heartstrings

I grouped together with two other students to write a fully original 15 minute musical that was then performed by other students at our school.

I ended up writing 4 songs, two being reprises of the main songs, to help carry the story along and show character development through very similar melodies and accompaniments.

Concept Music for “Rainmaker” by N. Richard Nash

In class, we were tasked with choosing a play and then writing 4 pieces of music that felt like they belonged. We needed: an overture/opening, two transition pieces for between scenes, and a finale. In my pieces, I focused on using instruments I was unfamiliar with writing for in order to bring the setting out, and convey the deep emotions between scenes.

“Theme & Variations”

My Composition II class final involved us devising a theme, and then creating multiple variations of it which on the last day of the semester, were performed by live musicians and recorded in Columbia College Chicago’s recording studio
